23 Oct 2020: Happy to announce that I have been awarded the Outstanding Early Career Scientist Award for the Geochemistry, Mineralogy, Petrology and Volcanology section of the European Geoscience Union.

Dr. Mike Jollands
I am a geologist by training (BSc, MGeol, Uni. Leeds) but rarely find myself looking at rocks or swinging a hammer. A PhD in experimental petrology (Australian National Uni) pulled me far from traditional geology (thesis: Experimental Studies of Diffusion in Olivine) and a postdoc at the Uni. Lausanne (2015-2019) somewhat dragged me back. A pre-syn pandemic post-doc (2019-2021) at the Lamont-Doherty Earth observatory in New York tipped the scales back towards the experimental side.
I am generally more interested in processes than places - my current research interests revolve around understanding, and making use of, the chemical and physical behaviour of crystals.
